Dot MOBI Domain Name Registrations

More and more people use mobile gadgets to access the World Wide Web, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is permanently growing. To fulfill this demand, the body that administrates the generic top-level extensions, ICANN, launched the dot MOBI extension in 2005. The first registrations were allowed in September 2006, and the idea behind this extension is that all websites that use it are required to comply with specific restrictions. In other words, all .MOBI websites should be built to be accessed properly by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” formulated by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in collaboration with the .MOBI Registry organization. These have to do with how a site is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.

The regulations have provoked some questions since the top-level extension is the only one that specifies what devices has to be able to access a website and the way in which this needs to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a website should be built in such a way as to be viewed by the majority of web browser applications and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Taking into account that the .MOBI Registry does not offer domains directly, you can book a .MOBI domain with any 3rd-party firm, such as ours.
