IP Blocking
What's IP blocking and what does it mean for site visitors? When is it handy?
From time to time you may have to block certain third parties from accessing your sites. There are a lot of automatic bots that crawl the Internet, for example, and produce fake visits and site traffic. There are also spammers that leave links to suspicious sites as comments to site articles. This kind of things can greatly undermine your work, because nobody likes to visit a website with tons of fake comments, not to mention that the increased site traffic from both spammers and bots can create high load on the server on which your website is hosted, which could result in the site not working correctly. One of the best solutions in cases like this is to block the IP addresses which create the fake traffic, as a way to make sure that the visits to your site are legitimate.

IP Blocking in Cloud Web Hosting
If you have a
cloud web hosting account with us and you want to block one or a few IP addresses, you can use the IP Blocking tool, which is integrated into our in-house built Hepsia CP. Through a very simple interface, you'll be able to stop any IP from accessing your content even if you have never had a web hosting account before. All it requires to perform that is to log in to your CP, to navigate to the IP Blocking section, to choose a certain domain or subdomain from a drop-down menu and then to enter the IP address. You simply won't need to do anything complex if you wish to block an entire network - you'll just need to omit the last octet, so entering 1.1.1. with a blank space after the last dot shall block the entire range from 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.255. All blocked IPs will be listed in the very same section, so you'll be able to remove any of them from the blacklist with just a click.

IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you host your Internet sites inside a
semi-dedicated server account with us and you want to block one or a number of IP addresses at some point, you'll be able to use the easy-to-use blocking tool, that we've provided with our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With a few clicks, you will be able to block particular IPs or whole ranges, if needed. All you shall have to do is select any one of your domains or subdomains from a drop-down menu, choose if the blocking needs to be valid for the root folder or for a subfolder that's part of the site, and then input the IP address that you'd like to block. For an IP range, you simply have to omit the last octet or the last two octets of the address depending on the size of the network which you want to block. All the addresses which you have restricted will be listed within the same section and if you want to whitelist any of them, you will be able to do it with only a click anytime.
